FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (USA) — EASYWAY & BLACKOUTS became the 1st Teams in History to ever win ISPS World Championship Rings as both Teams fought tough competition in their respective divisions this past weekend at Mills Pond Softball Complex in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

EASYWAY won the MENS SILVER DIVISION beating out HIT EM HARD 24-23 in the Championship.  And BLACKOUT won the MENS BRONZE DIVISION beating DIRTY BLUE BALLS 15-4.  EASYWAY was the #1 Ranked Team coming in the Tournament, while BLACKOUT was just coming back from a few bumps in the road during the regular tournament season.
It all started on Thursday (Halloween) with the 2nd arrival of an International Team coming to play an ISPS WORLD TOURNAMENT.  Last year GUATEMALA participated in the ISPS WORLD CLASSIC presented by POWERADE.  This year TEAM PUERTO RICO participated in the 2013 ISPS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS led by ISPS Puerto Rico National Director Abraham Aleman.  The team arrived to Fort Lauderdale on Thursday afternoon and had a tour of the Mills Pond Softball Complex in Fort Lauderdale, FL.  The following day on Friday, the Team met ISPS Commissioner Manuel T. Ferrero III at the American Airlines Arena across from the ISPS Headquarters.  The Puerto Rican Team then had lunch on South Beach at Finnegan's Way thanks to our Softball brother Jason Diaz.
After lunch, the Puerto Rican team headed to Mills Pond Softball Complex for a Special Exhibition Game versus an All-Star Team of USA players including Chris "GATOR" Kenney (who won the HR Derby), Gabe Caride, Joseph Labriola, Jeff Wittmen, Robert Hendren & Chris Benigno to name a few.  The game was presented by B45 Yellow Birch Wood Bats and featured some of their new Official ISPS/B45 Wood Bats.  The Puerto Rican team had to adjust to the new rules and playing styles of ISPS America Slow Pitch Softball, but they quickly caught on.  It was a quite defensive game due to the wood bats and the learning curve of the visiting team, but finally the Americans won 9-3.

"It was a fun game, and we learned a lot from these American players" said Puerto Rican Manager and ISPS Puerto Rico National Director Abraham Aleman.  "We look forward to more competitions in the future.

Gabe Caride, the USA Team Manager and ISPS Florida State Director, said; "The Puerto Ricans have a lot of talent.  They are a great defensive team and extremely fast!  If they get a few more years under ISPS rules and learn the game more, they will be very good on the International level."

Before the Exhibition Game between Puerto Rico and USA, ISPS Hosted the 2013 ISPS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS HR DERBY.  Great competition and lots of Long Balls through out the contest.  After the first round there was a tie between 4 players to see who would go on to the finals.  Chris "GATOR" Kenney finally made it and beat Robert Hendren in the Finals to win a COMBAT DIRTY Bat.
After the Exhibition Game between Puerto Rico and the USA, ISPS hosted a SPEED CONTEST presented by MUCHERA.  MUCHERA is the Official Sliding Pants of ISPS and the contest featured the fastest players in the tournament.  Participants were FLYING through the bases to see who had the fastest time from "Home-to-Home".  With a time of 12.27, Einar Smart from Team Puerto Rico took home 1st Place and a MUCHERA Player Pack with a Pair of MUCHERA Sliding Pants.
After a few team pictures, comraderie & international slow pitch softball talk about styles and play in their respective countries, everyone went home for a BIG day in the morning.
“(In Spanish) I told the team they could stay out late on Halloween and Saturday night, but Friday night we implemented a curfew because of the early game-time on Saturday” said Team Puerto Rico Manager & ISPS Puerto Rico National Director Abraham Aleman.
ISPS is also getting a USA Team to travel to Puerto Rico in 2014 to go compete with the style of play in Puerto Rico.  If you or someone you know is interested in taking this trip to Puerto Rico and compete email info@ispssoftball.com

On Saturday morning the games started very early in the am at 8am.  Bat testing was in full affect and over 500+ bats were checked, with very minimal percentage coming back FAILED.  ISPS had 5 fields running all day governed by some of the BEST in ISPS Umpires including 2013 ISPS HALL of FAME Inductee David Sweet.
Overall a great day of softball that ran very smooth with no altercations.  Great sportsmanship all around by all teams.  Especially those who faced our International Slow Pitch Softball brothers from Puerto Rico.  Class acts all-around!
EASYWAY had a great day of hitting and finally got their ISPS World Champion Rings in SILVER.  And BLACKOUT led by SCOTT "Playboy" Devlin also had a great day when it counted.
BLACKOUT Manger Scott Devlin said; "After a few minor bumps on the road, we finally are going to get our rings boys!"

This is the 1st WORLD TOURNAMENT that ISPS gives away WORLD CHAMPION RINGS to the Winning Team in each Division.  Winning team players were sized and should be receiving their new ISPS World Champion Rings in a few weeks.

ISPS wants to thank all the teams, players, directors, umpires & fans for supporting ISPS all year.  ISPS would also like to thank the Sponsors including; B45 YELLOW BIRCH WOOD BATS, MUCHERA, HITTING JACK-IT, MARIO'S SOLDIERS, ALEGRIAS BIKINIS, THAT WAX, POP TOSS BATTING TEES, INSIDER BAT, MY DUGOUT BUDDY, DR RAY TOLMOS FAMILY CHIROPRACTIC CENTER, GOMEZ & SON FENCE, HOTELS.COM, DIRTY SPORTSWEAR & GAMETIME TRAVEL.

Mario's Soldiers Annual Charity Softball Tournament - Oct 5 - Mills Pond

Mario's Soldiers Annual Charity Softball Tournament - Oct 5 - Mills Pond
ISPS - 10/5/2013

"Come out and enjoy a great day of softball for a great cause!"

Our very cherished Annual Event, the MARIO's SOLDIERS Memorial Tournament will be this Oct 5th at Mills Pond Softball Complex in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.  It is hosted annually by ISPS and the CEO of ISPS Manuel T. Ferrero III & Mario's Soldiers to Honor his younger brother PFC Marius L. Ferrero and all those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country's freedom.

Mario's Soldiers is a Non-Profit Organization started by the Ferrero Family to help vets, the homeless and under privileged children in honor of our fallen.

This year we will be providing a FREE Bat to each Participating team and will be starting a New Annual Project called "SOCKS FOR THE HOMELESS".  Please come play a day of softball and help us by donating New/Clean Socks to Donate for the Homeless.

Socks in the Homeless Community is a Very thought after commodity that many of us go without noticing.  Many of these men, women & children must use the same socks day after day with holes and sometimes no socks at all.  Also, in the winter time socks can also double as gloves.  We know that sometimes we are hesitant to give money to a homeless person, but this is a great way to help without having the thought of your money being used for drugs and alcohol.  The socks will REALLY be appreciated!

Thank you for your support!

City of Miami ISPS Invitational Slow Pitch Softball Tournament

City of Miami ISPS Invitational Slow Pitch Softball Tournament
ISPS - 9/23/2013

Slow Pitch Softball Invitational Event

The City of Miami, Commissioner Francis Suarez & ISPS have a big heart when it comes to the sport of Slow Pitch Softball.
A Complimentary Tournament in the City of Miami!?!?
“Never before has anything like this happened in Slow Pitch Softball that I can remember,,, let alone the City of Miami,” said Head Umpire & recently Inducted ISPS Hall of Famer David Sweet as he prepared to call a game at Douglas Park on Douglas Road (SW 37th Avenue) in Miami this past weekend.
The City of Miami and ISPS want to improve the programs currently offered to the Recreational Adult Community, and this tournament was born to accomplish just that.
ISPS CEO Manuel T. Ferrero III called it "unjust"; "...the City of Miami is where our World Headquarters is, our home.....and we didn't have any programs in the City of Miami for Adult Slow Pitch Softball."  "Now, with the help of my good friend Commissioner Francis Suarez & the City of Miami we can change that."
“These people live active, healthy lifestyles...”, Manuel said. “They just want a place to play”.
The tournament attracted 13 teams with more on a waiting list.
The tournament was completely Complimentary compliments of the City of Miami, Commissioner Francis Suarez & ISPS.
Manuel Ferrero isn’t exactly sure when the last "Real" Slow Pitch Softball Tournament in The City of Miami was, but he doesn’t think it was this century.

"This is the first time a Tournament of this style and complimentary has ever been done within the City Limits of the City of Miami" said Manuel.

The City of Miami resident has been living in the neighborhood of Silver Bluff Estates after just 2 weeks of being born in Naples, FL.  Manuel started hosting adult slow pitch softball leagues and tournaments after his younger (and only) brother was killed in action in Baqubah, Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Ferrero states that; "I didn't like the way leagues and tournaments were being ran by the current directors and associations that were hosting programs, so I decided to start my own leagues and tournaments to take my mind off the death of my brother and offer a better adult slow pitch softball program."  "My background was in website design and my passion and hobby was Slow Pitch Softball and Baseball as a kid, so I just decided to put both of my skills to work."
ISPS started as FAS (Florida Adult Softball) — But in January of 2012, ISPS was born after more and more Directors and Park Facilities all over the world got word of the Program that Ferrero was developing and offering to the Slow Pitch Softball Community.
Originally starting as a 6 Team ALL-MENS league in Miami-Dade County on June 29th 2008, has grown into an association representing over 125+ of the TOP Teams in the world and over 10,000+ players world-wide!

“Thanks to our City of Miami Commissioner Francis Suarez we have been able to host a quality event in the City of Miami” Ferrero said. “We all love the game of softball, and we’ve been playing for a long time, and we want to play in the City of Miami”

"With this one in Miami, our players & teams didn’t have to go far for the tournament, and able to finally find a local tournament in the City."

“Some are young, some are older....but they all play well,” said Gabe Caride, ISPS Florida State Director. “When they see an event like this put on by the City of Miami and ISPS AND it's FREE, the players really appreciate it and now they know the city parks can host quality events with the help of ISPS.”
“It wouldn't have been possible without the help of Commissioner Francis Suarez and the City of Miami” Manuel Ferrero said. “Impossible.”

The parks used in this event were Douglas Park on SW 37th Avenue and Gibson Park in Historic Overtown.

Men played for the first day at each respective divisional park location.  Bronze Division played at Douglas Park for Bracket play on Saturday and the Silver Division played at the ALL-NEW Gibson Park on both Saturday and Sunday!
The event was a surprise Invitational Tournament that was Open to the ISPS Sanctioned Teams just 5 Days before the Tournament.
"Sometimes special things like this just spurt up at any moment and you have to be ready for anything!" said Ferrero.  "This is the start of a great partnership between the City of Miami and ISPS"

Slow-Pitch Softball is one of the fastest-growing recreational sports in the world.  The City of Miami want to offer adult slow pitch softball programs for those citizens interested in participating in recreational leagues and tournaments, giving the opportunity to those adults that want to lead a healthy, active life-style.

In ISPS, players must be 18 years of age to participate.  They currently offer 3 levels of competition for Men's; BRONZE, SILVER & GOLD, as well as CoED, Women's & Senior Divisions.

“I'm really happy the City of Miami and Commissioner Suarez hosted this event with ISPS, this is a quality event and the fields look great!!!  Just wished there were more Fields!!!” Dirtbags Player Danny Villa said. “Most of the complexes out there may have more fields, but nothing compares to this”  Villa said referring to the Astroturf field at Gibson Park in Miami.

ISPS CEO Manuel Ferrero admitted many people are surprised when he said the City of Miami will be hosting a complimentary slow-pitch softball tournament.

Not just because it was complimentary, but because it was inside the City of Miami.
Quality Slow Pitch Softball Tournaments were just not played in the City of Miami and the whole Slow Pitch Softball community knew this.

For ISPS & the City of Miami, this is about to rapidly change within the next few months.

“This is our ISPS home” Ferrero said. “We want to have a place to play at Home, and have a place to invite others to come play at our Home.”

The City of Miami and Commissioner Francis Suarez have big plans for recreational sports and adult slow pitch softball in the City of Miami.

“The City of Miami and Commissioner Suarez have Big Plans and ISPS will be there to help them in any way we can” Ferrero said. “ISPS will make the City of Miami the New Home of Slow Pitch Softball on the International Level”
